Did you know the grocery store provides unlimited amounts of new and different vocabulary to introduce to your child?!

You can help your child build vocabulary by:

1. Naming items as you walk by them 2. Using descriptive words to talk about how the food looks (size, color, shape) 3. Allowing your child to touch the food while you describe how it feels (cold, bumpy, soft). 4. Turning your trip to the grocery store into a scavenger hunt

You can carry out a scavenger hunt while they are sitting in the cart or walking next to you. Give your child a VISUAL list of items you need to buy, and have them HELP you find them in the store. I created a visual list for one of my little friends today and he had SO MUCH FUN searching and checking things off his list!

You can also have your little one help you cut and paste pictures from your weekly circular to create their own shopping list to use in the grocery store.

How do you get your little one to help you during your routines?
